Looking Through the Looking Glass

Like a looking glass (mirror), correlations are a tool for seeing yourself, or more precisely, your own mind. As such, they should appeal to anyone determined to get to the bottom of things. Of course the bottom in this case is one which is without substance.  In other words, the correlation’s process may only attract those for whom ‘the looking for’ is more satisfying than ‘the finding’. Like looking through, rather than at, a mirror’s reflection, the closer you look, the fuzzier the view.

In a way, correlations are a success in failure; correlations succeed in that they fail to provide more than a tentative and murky answer to any question. The ‘good’ news: all questions are answerable. The ‘bad’ news; the answers cannot be fathomed (*). It is odd, and certainly not everyone’s cup of tea. Still, taste ‘em to see for yourself.

(*)Good and bad‘ here corresponds to how biology drives us to find answers (’good’) and avoid the unfathomable (’bad’). So perhaps, in truth it is all just visa verse. I’m sure correlations has the answer - :-)
